About Sierra Writers

Sierra Writers provides a venue for writers of all types to meet, share and learn, with a range of experience and expertise.  Meetings are held at 6:30 on the second Wednesday of every month except July and August at the Madelyn Helling Library Community Room, offering at least six speakers or events per year.  There are two “Open Reads” (usually in October and March) where anyone can submit a few pages anonymously to be read aloud and critiqued constructively.  In May, we honor the winners of our Lee Roddy Young Writers’ Contest. We host a picnic in August for members and their guests.

Fiction and non-fiction and poetry critique groups further support developing writers through constructive feedback.  Our encouraging environment addresses the nuts and bolts of writing, including getting works written, published and marketed.

Ardelle Hopkins and Duane Newcomb founded Sierra Writers along with Alan Gering, Ron Greene, and Linda Monaghan.  It has been serving the needs of writers in the Sierra since 1982.
